They’re Going To Talk Anyway...

High school is a time of contemplation, angst, wonder and conversation. Students talk to help themselves figure out who they are going to be, where they fit and how the world works. The 9-12 Expedition Pack is designed to encourage conversation directed toward ideas and concepts that help create a productive classroom culture. Through watching Student FISH! and discussing the “FISH! Pond” questions, students and educators work together to create community.

The 9-12 Expedition Guide is divided into seven units – Beginning the Discussion, Introduction to FISH!, Be There, Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, Play, and Keeping FISH! Alive. Lessons engage students in activities and conversation that relate to the real issues facing teenagers, giving students opportunities to integrate productive behaviors and connect with each other in new and profound ways.

The lessons can be used in a math, science or language class. Often, in high school settings, the homeroom is the place to introduce the lessons while classroom teachers reinforce and use the concepts to build community within their classrooms. The engaging nature of the fishmongers in Student FISH! and the obvious connection to success in whatever career options students may be contemplating add to the curriculum’s success.
