Inquiry-Based Learning and Marine Biology for Grades 3-5
Students in grades 3-5 are naturally curious. The 3-5 Expedition Pack uses a marine biologist theme to allow students to explore The FISH! Philosophy and begin to discover their ability to impact the world. Following the inquiry model, students hypothesize how their actions affect others, perform experiments to test theories, make observations, and draw conclusions.
The 3-5 Expedition Guide is divided into six units – Chart Your Course, Be There, Choose Your Attitude, Make Their Day, Play, and Keeping FISH! Alive. The lessons in each unit build upon the theme, giving students opportunities to integrate productive behaviors and develop positive social and interpersonal skills.
Depending on your school’s schedule and structure you can do a lesson a day and immerse the class in The FISH! Philosophy, or take your time and do a lesson or two a week over several months, building throughout the year. Either way works! Once you’ve completed the lessons, there are tools available to help keep FISH! alive.
To help you and your class succeed, the 3-5 Expedition Pack includes Pete the Perch, Pete the Puppet, and a CD of original FISH! songs. Kids will enjoy singing along. Once they know the words, use the instrumental versions and let the students belt them out on their own.
Let your students’ curiosity flow and together you’ll create a classroom that is even more vibrant.
